The Bowland Festival runs from 1st - 8th June 2008. The festival celebrates the birds, wildlife, landscape and culture of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

As part of Bowland Festival Arts, the Platform Gallery presents a showcase of high quality contemporary craftwork produced by artists working in and around Bowland.

Annwyn Dean is based in Thornton in Craven and works in stitched textiles. She draws inspiration from the marks that man has made upon the landscape and the stitches that have been placed upon the cloth (historical costume and embroidery). She will exhibit framed textile pieces and wall hangings.

Jenny Eaton is a ceramic artist based near Clitheroe. Her new work explores the human form in a series of small-scale ceramic sculptures. Unique surface colouration is produced by smoke firing, which produces exciting and unpredictable results.

Joan Newall works with stitched textiles and paper to produce wall hangings and books. She combines her printing background and textile skills to make work that explores the boundary between fine art and craft.

Sarah Smith is a sculptor who works mainly in stone. Born in 1965 in Yorkshire, Sarah has exhibited widely throughout the UK, including London and Glasgow. Her return to North Yorkshire full-time 3 years ago has seen a stronger influence of the natural landscape emerge in her work.

Matt Turley (pictured)is a designer/ maker concentrating on contemporary furniture in wood. Many of his designs are made from timber sourced in North Lancashire and Cumbria; it is the notion of creating beautiful functional pieces from local materials that drives his work. His work crosses the boundaries between art and craft.
