Ribble Valley Borough Council's Platform Gallery holds its first Textiles Open Exhibition this autumn. The exhibition was open to amateur, professional and student textile artists who live in Lancashire (including Greater Manchester) and Yorkshire.
From over 100 submissions, 71 artists were selected to exhibit their work in the beautiful converted railway station, which was refurbished with an Arts Council grant in 2001. Over 100 works will be on show, celebrating the wealth of textile talent in the North of England. The exhibition will feature a diverse range of techniques including stitched, woven and constructed textiles, as well as smaller scale textile jewellery and accessories. Come and see dazzling textile landscapes, a cape made from recycled knitwear and a knitted prawn brooch!
Ribble Valley's Deputy Mayor, Cllr Beverley Jones, will officially open the exhibition on Saturday 13 September at 12noon. Two artists will be named as lucky recipients of the Selectors' Prize for Innovation (1st prize £100 gallery voucher, 2nd prize £50 gallery voucher).
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite piece in the People's Prize. The winner will be announced on 20th October and will be awarded a £100 gallery voucher.
