Interface arrives at the Platform Gallery, Clitheroe this autumn. The exhibition explores how new digital technology is used by contemporary craft makers, in a tradition where the focus is usually on the hand made.
A fascinating combination of maquettes, computer stills, DVDs, drawings and text will help the audience to understand, consider and respond to the work. Innovative and progressive pieces of furniture, wood, jewellery, metal and ceramics will show how the interface of the computer shapes, enhances or governs the work. This exhibition brings together some of those leading makers who have tapped into the possibilities of digital technology.
The selected exhibitors will show their route from conception to the end physical object by 'laying bare' the design and making process and applications they use. Many makers start 'building' within the computer, make the object using the software they have manipulated and then finish the piece off by hand, others never place a physical hand on the piece.
Processes such as Rapid Prototyping (RP), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Computer Numeric Control (CNC), Stereolithography (SLA) will be demystified. They are complex but interesting so please take the opportunity to visit the exhibition where you can find out what exactly CNC is! A full glossary of terms along with education notes will complement the exhibition.
