Using a Right of Way

What can I do and Where can I go?

On all highways the public have the right to pass and re-pass at all times

You may take a pram, pushchair or wheelchair along a Right of Way but be aware that you may encounter obstacles such as stiles and gates that you may not be able to pass.  If you do find difficulty using a way due to such obstacles please contact us as we may be able to help

Footpaths and bridleways are categories of highway defined by the type of traffic entitled to use them

You may take a dog along a Right of Way so long as you have it under close control, or preferably, on a lead.

If you encounter an illegal obstruction on a Right of Way you may either make a small detour to avoid it or move it sufficiently to get past. Please ensure you do either safely.

Lack of use does not affect the legal status of a Right of Way. If it is shown on the Definitive Map, you have a right to use it.

If you enter onto private land to which you have no right of access you must leave if asked to do so by the landowner or their representative
