Clitheroe Cemetery
Arboretum
A memorial arboretum has been created at Clitheroe Cemetery to meet increased demand for commemorative trees.
An arboretum is an area of land set aside for growing trees planted in groups of family, genus or species.
Members of the public are able to visit the arboretum and choose a tree from a wider selection of varieties than is currently available. The arboretum will allow 200 trees to be planted.
The process of choosing a tree and watching it grow can help with the grieving process. Cremated remains can be interred at the base of the tree and a bronze plaque can also be purchased to be placed at the foot of the tree.
The arboretum is now full but a new area is in the design stage and will be ready within the next three years.
