Empty properties
Wasted Resource
Tackling empty properties in the borough is a priority for the council.
Service outline - Housing in Ribble Valley is in high demand and therefore empty housing is a valuable wasted resource. The council's private sector housing staff work with owners of long term empty properties to;
-offer advice and assistance
-encourage renovation or sale
-enforce use or sale of property through Compulsory Purchase Orders or Empty Dwelling Management Orders
There is estimated over 600 empty properties in the borough. Each year the council's target is to bring empty properties back into use. The Empty Property Strategy was published in 2004 and is due to be reviewed in 2008.
