Clitheroe is a historic market town, which has held a regular market since the Norman conquest in the 12th century.

The market is an important institution which has a considerable impact on the personality of the town.  Great care is taken in maintaining a healthy balance of different lines of goods as well as ensuring competition. Every endeavour is made to promote and maintain a high quality facility offering fruit and vegetables, bread and cakes, cheese and biscuits, fish, fresh and cooked meats, men's, ladies and children's fashion, underwear, pottery, craft items, curtains and fabrics, carpet & rugs, towels and household textiles, plants, electrical goods, and many more. People can browse at their leisure amongst the stalls and after a day spent shopping you may want to sit awhile and just watch the world  go by, then where better, than beneath the traditional lamp post.

The site was completely redeveloped in 1995 to provide a modern and attractive facility with suitable and convenient car parking. The market was moved to the adjacent site of the old cobbled bull ring which was the centre piece of the old cattle market.  The cattle market can now be found on the outskirts of Clitheroe on Lincoln's Way. The market redevelopment reflects the Council's commitment to the importance of the market and its role in the continuing success of Clitheroe as a shopping centre.  Despite major changes in shopping habits over  the years, we at Clitheroe Market find that people still like to browse without feeling under pressure, and where better to browse than Clitheroe Market.   Please take time to visit and experience the market. Enquiries are invited from enthusiastic and committed traders wishing to stand this popular market.
We have a number of stalls/pitches available for occupation on each of the three market days, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. Occupation of a cabin is by application onto a waiting list or to advertisements in the event of a vacancy.

There are over eighty stalls, pitches and stone-built cabins.
