LLPG / NLPG
How can the National Land and Property Gazetteer benefit my organisation?
If you use addresses for more than just postal delivery purposes then the NLPG can help you.
The NLPG gives you the ability to add richness within your addresses (geographic, alternative, descriptive and postal addresses can be accommodated) and can serve many different applications including what the property was previously known as.
Adopting the NLPG should not require a radical change to your computer systems.
The NLPG's unique reference number (UPRN) means you can continue to hold your addresses in their existing formats but, by adding a single field containing the UPRN, it becomes possible to link matching records in different databases together. You can also link to data held by other organisations using the same UPRN referencing system. Because of the scope, currency and comprehensiveness of the NLPG, it can help you to eliminate ambiguity and duplicates. There are many examples where it has helped to identify gaps in users' data, and has thus increased the efficiency of their operations, generating additional revenue, saving money and correcting errors.
It ensures that authorities have consistent addresses for properties outside their areas, which is important for reciprocal service provision arrangements and wider agendas such as care in the community which involves nationally consistent data.
