Winter weather


Lancashire County Council provides the winter gritting service to roads in the Ribble Valley, see Lancashire County Council, Gritting.

During periods of snow and severe weather, gritting may take considerably longer to complete. Lancashire County Council use all available resources to clear the priority network and the remaining network in a priority order.

Priority and secondary gritting routes are available on the Lancashire County Council mapping system. Alternatively call 0845 053 0011.

The M6, M55, M65 (J1 to 10), A56 (from M65 to M66), A570 (from M58 to Southport) and A585 (from M55 to Fleetwood), are the responsibility of the Highways Agency for Central Government - Information Line 08457 50 40 30.

Clearing snow

There's no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your home or from public spaces. If you decide to clear snow and ice from the pavement please follow the Met Office Snow Code.

Rock Salt delivery

Over 70s can request the delivery of a bag of rock salt to their home. To request a free bag of rock salt please complete the Request rock salt for the over 70s form.
