Flooding

The Met Office issue severe weather warnings during spells of very wet and very windy weather. For more information see the Met Office Weather Warnings. If you are worried about flooding look at the Environment Agency flood warning codes and follow our information on preparing for a flood.

Gritting

Lancashire County Council provides the winter gritting service to roads in the Ribble Valley for more information see Lancashire County Council, Gritting.

During periods of snow and severe weather, operations may take considerably longer to complete. Lancashire County Council use all available resources to clear the priority network and the remaining network in a priority order. Typically this will take several days and the weather situation may have improved before the entire network is cleared.

Motorways and trunk roads - The M6, M55, M65 (J1 to 10), A56 (from M65 to M66), A570 (from M58 to Southport) and A585 (from M55 to Fleetwood), are the responsibility of the Highways Agency for Central Government - Information Line 08457 50 40 30.

For priority and secondary gritting routes go to the Lancashire County Council mapping system for the most up to date information. Alternatively call 0845 053 0011.

For updates on gritting, path and road clearing you can follow Lancashire County Council's winter Twitter feed and Lancashire County Council's Facebook.

Clearing snow

There's no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your home or from public spaces. If you decide to clear snow and ice from the pavement please follow the Met Office Snow Code.
