Asbestos removal

Asbestos should NEVER be disposed of in your general waste bin. Your rubbish is partially treated by manual handlers and any loose asbestos placed in your bin poses a threat to the health of the operatives dealing with your rubbish. Please take all asbestos to the recycling centre.

For more information on what to do with asbestos see Lancashire County Council's disposal of asbestos

Householders can take small amounts of asbestos to the tip but it will only be accepted if wrapped in heavy duty polythene sheets. Asbestos wrapping materials are provided free of charge (in limited quantities) for householders and can be collected from the tip. Smaller pieces of asbestos should be double-bagged and securely sealed. Phone before visiting the tip with your asbestos.

  • Henthorn Household Waste Recycling Centre - 01200 42939

Chapel Hill, Longridge does not accept asbestos.

Large amounts such as garages cannot be taken to the tip. A skip is required and it must be dismantled not broken up (Goggles, Masks, Gloves must be worn.)

www.wastedirectory.org.uk gives names of companies that will remove it.

Lancashire County Council operates 15 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) throughout Lancashire where householders can recycle their rubbish. See the Lancashire County Council website for a list of all HWRCs.

The opening hours at all HWRC's are:

8.00am - 7.00pm 1 March - 31 October
9.00am - 6.00pm 1 November - 28/29 February

Closed only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day

Commercial vehicles

Certain commercial vehicles or trailers must obtain a permit from Lancashire County Council before visiting a HWRC.
