Waste management
There are increasing pressures on local authorities to develop sustainable solutions to deal with the waste produced through both the public and commercial sector.
Furthermore as individuals we have an important role to play in first preventing the production of waste before considering other ways in dealing with our waste through re-use, recycling and composting.
To meet public demand to provide services that recover for recycling and composting of their household waste and in an effort to meet the statutory recycling targets, Ribble Valley Borough Council introduced a three-stream refuse and recycling collection service using wheeled bins as the standard container. This service is supported by the separate collection of mixed paper and cardboard.
It is also recognised that education and raising waste awareness play a key role in changing public attitude towards waste and encouraging greater participation and support for local recycling and composting initiatives. The Council is committed to provide educational support and programmes and has introduced a variety of waste awareness raising initiatives.
Ribble Valley Borough Council is committed to developing sustainable and cost-effective recovery systems to assist people in dealing with their waste, whether produced in the course of everyday life at home, as a by-product of commerce or business, or whilst people are out and about enjoying all that the Ribble Valley has to offer.
Our overall aims are to minimise the amount of waste that has to be disposed of, and to reduce the impact of waste on our natural environment.
