Medium Term Financial Strategy

The medium term financial strategy (MTFS) is the Council's key financial planning document. It aims to provide the Council with an assurance that the Council's spending plans are affordable over the medium term (3 years).

The main objectives of the medium term financial strategy are

  • to look to the longer term to help plan sustainable services and budgets and help ensure that the Council's financial resources are sufficient to support delivery of Council Plan priorities
  • to provide a single document to communicate the financial context, aims and objectives to staff and stakeholders and support working with partners

The financial strategy includes a three-year budget forecast that is reviewed annually. The medium term financial forecast builds on previous medium term strategies to provide the financial foundation for delivery of the Council's policy priorities and to meet the identified performance and resource issues.
