Ribble Valley Borough Council

Police and Crime Commissioner Election

Police and Crime Commissioner Elections

Results

The count took place at 9.30am on Friday 16 November and the results are available below:

Police authorities in England and Wales were abolished in September 2011 in favour of directly elected police and crime commissioners in a move aimed at strengthening the relationship between the police and the community.

The new police and crime commissioner will take up post on November 22, with responsibility for governing Lancashire Constabulary and holding its chief constable to account.

Four candidates are standing for election as the police and crime commissioner for Lancashire. They are:

  • Afzal Anwar, Liberal Democrat
  • Tim Ashton, Conservative
  • Rob Drobny, UKIP
  • Clive Grunshaw, Labour

There will be a different way of voting in these elections, called supplementary voting.

There are two stages to supplementary voting:

Stage 1

The first preference votes are counted. If a candidate receives more than 50 per cent of the first preference votes, he or she is elected and a result is declared. If no candidate receives more than 50 per cent of the first preference votes, the two candidates with the highest number of votes go forward to stage 2.

Stage 2

The second preference votes are checked for the eliminated candidate(s). Any second preference votes for the remaining two candidates are added to the votes they received in stage 1. The candidate with the highest number of votes after adding together the results from stages 1 and 2 is elected and a result is declared.
