The Legal Department

Scrap Metal Dealers

No one may carry on business as a scrap metal dealer in the Ribble Valley unless the appropriate particulars relating to him/her are entered in the register maintained by the Council.

A person carrying on or proposing to carry on business as a scrap metal dealer in the Ribble Valley, on giving the Council the appropriate particulars in writing, may apply to the Council to enter those particulars in the register, and the Council will then do so.

A person carries on business as a scrap metal dealer if he carries on business consisting of buying and selling scrap metal (unless he is only doing so for the manufacture of other items). Full definitions are provided in the relevant legislation (i.e. the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964, section 9).
