Ribble Valley Borough Council

PLACE

The Pennine Lancashire Joint Committee

The local authorities of Pennine Lancashire have recognised that trying to improve administrative areas in isolation would be extremely difficult.  Authorities should complement each other, bringing out different strengths and tackling weaknesses together, whilst maintaining identities.  To ensure the area prospers the local authorities recognise that they cannot afford to make stand alone achievements.

The Pennine Lancashire authorities are as follows:

Blackburn Borough Council, Burnley Borough Council, Hyndburn Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, The Borough Council of Pendle, Ribble Valley Borough Council and Rossendale Borough Council.

As a direct result of this commitment to joint working more formal arrangements have been put in place with the formation of a PLACE (Pennine Lancashire) Joint Committee.  Leaders from each of the authorities will have a place on the Joint Committee and will make decisions as a collective to benefit the area as a whole rather than in silos.

The primary role of the Joint Committee will be to take forward the Multi-Area Agreement and to take decisions on matters that are delegated to Pennine Lancashire from government and regional agencies. The committee will also oversee the Pennine Lancashire Development Company
(PLDC) and the development of strategies that operate on a Pennine Lancashire footprint.

The Joint Committee are open meetings, held bi-monthly and all agendas and related papers are available to members of the public.  Decisions will be published after each meeting.
