Spring Workshops 2012
with Lucy Elsie Harvey
Date: Sat 25 Feb 2012, 10.30am - 3.30pm
Max 10 spaces, age 16 plus. £36 per person
In this workshop participants will create unique found object jewellery and artefacts using wire and simple metalsmithing techniques with artist Lucy Elsie Harvey. Objects will be wrapped and assembled into new designs that explore the narrative and symbolism of the everyday object. A collection of ceramic and natural objects will be available on the day but please bring your own keepsakes, broken jewellery and magpie finds. Participants will produce a brooch and one or more pieces of found object jewellery using sterling silver and "cold connections"
(i.e. joining metal without soldering).
Workshop Overview
10.30 Introduction to Lucy's practice, inspirations and today's workshop
10.50 Brooch demonstration and workshop, wire manipulation, pin making, letter stamps
11.30 Demonstration and workshop - wire wrapping, articulated tube rivets and patination
12.30 Lunch
1.15 Demonstration - cable making, hammer textures, chain
1.30 Workshop - creating individual found object necklace or brooch using cold connection techniques
3.15 Tidy up, reflection and photography.
Other info:
Tea and coffee will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. There are several shops and cafes nearby or you can eat your lunch in the gallery.
All day car parking is available for £2.20 on the long stay car park on Chester Ave, under the railway bridge, behind the station.
All basic materials will be provided. In addition participants should bring along small found objects to be incorporated into their jewellery.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL - Full payment on booking is required to secure your place. We cannot give refunds on cancelled places for any reason once a secure booking has been made, unless we are able to fill the place from our reserve list.
