Search for Sports and Community Stars

Published Tuesday 26th April 11

The search is on for Ribble Valley’s sporting heroes and community champions.

Nominations for the 2011 Ribble Valley Sports, Arts and Community Awards are now open.

The awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony at the Grand, Clitheroe, on Wednesday, June 15.

Nominations are open in the following categories: Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year (Adult and Junior) and Rising Star. There is also a Lifetime Achievement Award in memory of Marjorie Partridge, a School Award recognising the work being undertaken by schools in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics and an award for Community Engagement made by the Ribble Valley Community Safety Partnership.

Chris Hughes, Ribble Valley Borough Council's head of cultural and leisure services, said: "The awards are a celebration of the hard work and commitment that goes into voluntary and community sport in Ribble Valley.

"Last year's event was the borough's largest ever celebration, as it incorporated an arts awards section for the first time.

"We anticipate that this years event will be even better and are asking as many people, clubs and organisations as possible to make nominations.

"We are looking forward to a fantastic night when the winners are announced."

The awards ceremony will also include the presentation of arts excellence grants totalling £2,225 to 15 young dancers, actors and musicians.

The winners will represent Ribble Valley at the Lancashire Sports Awards in September.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 20, and further information is available from the Ribble Valley Borough Council's sports development team on 01200 414488 or www.ribblevalley.gov.uk
