Ribble Valley Gets In The Olympic Spirit
Published Wednesday 29th June 11
A major family sporting event offering free taster sessions in over 20 activities has been unveiled by Ribble Valley Borough Council.
The 20-12 event will see 20 sports on offer over a 12-day period from Wednesday, July 13, until Sunday, July 24.
The free taster sessions are on offer in a bid to inspire residents of all ages to get in the Olympic spirit by taking part in new sporting activities.
The event will feature traditional Olympic sports, such as cycling and swimming, and new activities, such as skateboarding and zumba.
Ribble Valley Borough Council's leisure and sports development manager, Colin Winterbottom, said: "Ribble Valley has some fantastic sports clubs, first-class facilities and dedicated volunteers, who have joined forces to make this event possible.
"The 20-12 event aims to introduce a wide range of sports to residents of all ages and there is certainly something for everyone. We are inviting people to get in the Olympic spirit by taking part."
Olympic organisers are keen to encourage as many mass participation sporting events as possible ahead of next year's London games.
