“Fiver Friday” at Clitheroe Market

Published Wednesday 19th October 11

Stalls on Fridays for a fiver.

Ribble Valley residents are invited to take part in the cut-price collectors' markets in a bid to boost trade at the historic site.

The stalls are available to residents from 9am to 4pm for just £5, with stalls also available at the general market on Thursdays at the half price of £6.35 for a small stall and £7.90 for large.

Stuart Hirst, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council's health and housing committee, said: "We are offering the cut-price stalls to showcase the market and give local residents the chance to raise extra cash.

"We hope residents will take advantage of this fantastic opportunity by taking a stall or attending the markets."

Thirty-one stalls are available on a pre-booked basis. Residents are asked not to turn up without booking and will be asked on the day for proof of address, such as a driving licence or utility bill.

Clitheroe has hosted a regular market since the Norman Conquest in the 12th Century.

On "market day," Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, over 80 stalls sell fruit and vegetables, bread and cakes, fish and meat, clothing and lingerie, pottery and craft items, curtains and fabrics, rugs and household textiles, flowers and electrical goods.

To book a stall, contact Ribble Valley Borough Council on 01200 425111.
