"Weigh-2-Go" for Health Scheme

Published Wednesday 11th January 12

A popular weight management scheme run by Ribble Valley Borough Council is now available by self-referral.

Until now, Ribble Valley's community weight management scheme, Weigh-2-Go, has only been available by referral from a GP, or health professional.

Now the scheme is available on a self-referral basis to anyone with weight problems.

The scheme has a dedicated free phone number and e-mail address, where participants will be asked to complete a short assessment.

Ribble Valley Borough Council's health and fitness officer, Tracy Balko, said: "Weigh-2-Go has been a particularly successful programme and we hope the self-referral pathway will enable more people to take part.

"Weigh-2-Go is not a slimming club, but aims to give people a healthy eating plan and encourage them to be more active."

Weigh-2-Go lasts 12 weeks and there is no charge, but participants need to be above a certain weight in relation to their height.

Participant Bob Taylor, of Clitheroe, said: "Weigh-2-Go is a great scheme that is helping me lose weight and regain my health. Anyone with a weight problem, who is brave enough to take the first step out of their front door, won't be disappointed in this scheme and I strongly encourage them to take part."
