Go The Extra Mile for Good Cause

Published Friday 2nd March 12

Ribble Valley residents are invited to dust off their trainers and go the extra mile for a good cause.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has joined forces with Sainsbury's Supermarket to host Sport Relief Mile at Clitheroe Castle on Sunday, March 25.

Residents are being asked to walk, jog or run twice around the Clitheroe Castle Field, which is exactly a mile, or they can tackle three or six miles, instead. The race starts at 11am and the entry price is £6 for adults, £3 for children and senior citizens, and £15 for families, with all proceeds going to disadvantaged children in the UK and abroad.

Tom Bamber, Ribble Valley Borough Council's sports development officer, said: "Sport Relief Mile offers everyone, from mums and toddlers to seasoned runners, the chance to take part in the biggest mile in history.

"We are looking forward to a great day and raising much-needed cash to help vulnerable youngsters in the UK and across the world. We hope as many Ribble Valley residents as possible will take part."

Since its launch in 2002, over 1.25million people have taken part in Sport Relief Mile, helping to raise over £75million, among them David Walliams, who swam the English Channel and the Thames, and Eddie Izzard's amazing marathon a day around the UK.

Ends.
