Published Wednesday 11th July 12

Ribble Valley looks set to hit gold when it hosts a weekend of free sporting events from 20-22 July.

The Ribble Valley Olympic Weekend, organised by Ribble Valley Borough Council, will offer taster sessions in a variety of activities.

The aim of the weekend is to inspire residents of all ages to get in the Olympic spirit by taking part in new sporting activities.

Traditional Olympic sports, such as boxing and hockey, will be on offer, as well as new activities, such as street dancing and skateboarding.

There will also be a 2012 Sports Day at the Longridge Sports and Arts Centre from 1 to 3pm on Saturday, July 21, featuring fun-fencing, body zorbing and Gladiator-style inflatables.

And for young arts enthusiasts, there will be taster sessions in singing, acting and dancing at The Grand, Clitheroe, also on Saturday, July 21.

Ribble Valley Borough Council's sports development officer, Tom Bamber, said: "Ribble Valley has some fantastic sports clubs, first-class facilities and dedicated volunteers, who have joined forces to make this event possible.

"The Ribble Valley Olympic Weekend aims to introduce a wide range of sports to residents of all ages and there is certainly something for everyone. We are inviting people to get in the Olympic spirit by taking part."
