Ribble Valley Borough Council

Door Opens on Furniture Recycling Scheme

Published Monday 30th September 13

Ribble Valley Borough Council is at the forefront of a new scheme to recycle furniture.

The council has joined forces with Clitheroe Christians Together to distribute unwanted furniture to low income families.

And good quality furniture, as well as volunteers able to drive and lift, are needed to ensure the scheme is a success.

The scheme is administered by Open Door Furniture Recycling Ltd, a Pendle-based not-for-profit community organisation that provides basic furniture, domestic appliances and household items to families in need.

All items are fit for purpose and fireproof, and electrical appliances are PAT tested. Although not free, the items are provided at little cost to recipients.

Ribble Valley Borough Council's strategic housing manager, Rachael Stott, said: "Open Door's furniture recycling scheme has proved a great success in neighbouring boroughs and we look forward to working with our partners to bring the scheme to Ribble Valley.

"We particularly need donations of good quality basic furniture, which donors can be assured is going to a good cause, and volunteer drivers able to lift."

If you would like to volunteer, or offer or request furniture, contact Open Door on 01282 452400.
