Young Ribble Valley cricketers are bowled over after winning two top trophies.

Ribble Valley Under 15s Boys lifted the Ainsworth Trophy after winning the North West Partnership final against Bury Under 15s Boys at the Northern Club near Crosby in September.

Ribble Valley Under 13s Boys won the Lancashire County Partnership final and were runners-up in the Hacking Cup North West final at Leigh Cricket Club.

The Ribble Valley Under 11s Boys and Girls teams also competed excellently this season.

Youth cricket in Ribble Valley is promoted by the Ribble Valley Cricket Development Group, of which Ribble Valley Borough Council is a partner.

Its secretary is the council's sports development officer, Peter Fletcher, who said: "District youth cricket is the first step on the ladder for young players towards county and even national honours.

"Each year trials are held to find the most talented young cricketers in Ribble Valley to represent the district.

"It is a real achievement to be selected to represent Ribble Valley and the borough has some outstanding young players, girls and boys.

"Congratulations go to all the teams that have enjoyed an excellent season and to the managers, coaches and clubs who give their time so tirelessly to develop youth cricket."

Further information about district cricket or sports development is available from Peter Fletcher on 01200 414435.
