Discussions on Development of Clitheroe Market

Published Wednesday 23rd October 13

Ribble Valley Borough Council has entered into discussions with Barnfield Construction Ltd regarding a proposed redevelopment of Clitheroe Market.

Barnfield Construction is to research the viability of a retail development at the site and will present its findings to the council within the next six months.

The research will consider if redevelopment of the site is viable and, if so, what form it might take.

Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said he was delighted that after many years and several disappointments there seemed a realistic prospect of redeveloping the market site.

He said: "Barnfield Construction has a superb track record in schemes of this nature and we await the result of their research with interest.

"This is an exciting opportunity for us to work with a premier local construction company to see how the market site might be redeveloped in keeping with Clitheroe Town Centre Masterplan."

Barnfield Construction's extensive and prestigious portfolio includes The Globe Centre, Accrington; The Ace Centre, Nelson; Boundary Mill, Colne; Stanley House, Mellor, and Blackfriars, Manchester.

Any proposal for the Clitheroe Market site will be subject to the normal planning process.
