Ribble Valley Borough Council

Core Strategy Examination to Start in January

Published Tuesday 12th November 13

A date has been set for a public examination into the Ribble Valley Core Strategy.

The Government has appointed Simon Berkeley from the Planning Inspectorate to conduct the examination in the Ribble Valley Borough Council Chamber in Church Street, Clitheroe, from Tuesday 14 January, to Friday 24 January, excluding Mondays.

Ribble Valley residents may observe the examination and are asked to notify the inspectorate's programme officer detailing which session or sessions they wish to attend.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has formally agreed the strategy, which sets out development in the borough until 2028, including how many new houses the area needs and where they might be built.

The strategy reflects a requirement of 5,000 new houses, some of which have already been or are already being built, to address the demands of demographic change, affordable housing and economic growth.

The strategy has been subject to a statutory six-week public consultation and will now undergo the examination in public.

Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said: "Understandably residents are concerned that future development does not destroy the natural beauty and ambience of the borough.

"They are also concerned that roads, schools and medical facilities will be able to cope with the number of new houses.

"But it is important to understand that the Core Strategy will be a major tool in preserving Ribble Valley and enabling development to meet the needs of residents, not developers."

The examination in public will take place on Tuesdays - Fridays, with sessions scheduled to start at 9.00am and 2.00pm.
