Creativity Within The Beauty

The arts and crafts within and around The Forest of Bowland are as unique, diverse and beautiful as the wildlife, landscape, habitats and eco-systems, which the Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (A.O.N.B.) represents and cares for.

The 50th Anniversary of Bowland as an A.O.N.B. is providing the inspiration for this exhibition showcasing the high quality artistic talent of visual artists, makers and designers found within this stunning landscape, presenting it across Lancashire in the exhibition based at the two venues Platform Gallery and Artroom in Garstang.

Chrissy Webster Workshop

Take home a gorgeous illuminated image for your window. This is a really inventive way to work with stained glass even if you have worked with it the traditional way. Learn how to design, cut and adhere stained glass to create an abstract design, or a scenic view such as a butterfly, sunset or tree. Tools and materials are included within the great price and consist of a range of translucent and wispy stained glass, beads and other found objects.

Lesley Woods Talk/Demonstration

Discover the history of chocolate and how the world of chocolate is changing today. The talk includes several tastings and demonstrations on chocolate making.

Speaker Lesley Woods has worked with food all her life: serving it, cooking it and teaching it. She has a particular love of chocolate and would like to share her journey from 'candy' chocolate to artisan chocolate to raw chocolate with you, explaining the history of this wonderful food on the way.

A talk, demonstration and workshop that will challenge your ideas of how to eat healthily. Lesley a naturopathic nutritionalist will discuss the 21st century’s healthy eating ideas. She will demonstrate many meal ideas and ask that you participate in some of the making as well as the tasting.

Craft Open 2015

The gallery's annual open exhibition. Craft makers from across the North of England are invited to apply to be considered for selection. Selected makers are exhibited together in this vibrant and eclectic exhibition. Furniture, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, glass and mixed media works hang side by side in this celebration of the hand-made. Vote for your favourite piece in the show in the People's Choice Award.

Chrissy Webster - Make a Garden Mosaic Plaque

Take home a gorgeous mosaic image for your house or garden. This is a lovely way to enhance your surroundings. Learn how to design, cut and adhere mosaics to create a house number, abstract design, or a part of nature. Tools and materials are included and consist of a range of glass, beads and other found objects. Open to the public, minimum age is 16. The price is £26 per person, and a deposit of £12 is required to secure a booking. 1 to 4pm.

Black Sheep – The Darker Side of Felt

Felt is the most ancient constructed textile in the world and in its long and fascinating history it has been used for everything from military armour to housing, from cosy winter garments to conceptual art. This exhibition is an exploration of the edgier side of this extraordinary and versatile material, looking at artists who create sometimes disturbing and bizarre oddities and technically brilliant objects. This is a touring exhibition from The National Centre for Craft and Design, which comes with a handling collection where visitors can directly engage with the fabric. More contemporary feltmakers work available in the gallery shop.

Norman Kelly

Celebrating his recent win of the Ribble Valley prize at the Platform Gallery's Craft Open 2015, Norman was awarded a one man exhibition at the venue. In this exhibition of calligraphy, Norman will be presenting work that explores the theme of Shakespeare's Seven Ages Of Man. To promote the craft he will be running workshops - details to follow.

Maison Thé - Pop Up Tea Room

Maison Thé is returning to the Platform Gallery. They will be bringing their vintage tea party sparkle to Clitheroe Food Festival. The perfect place to relax in our little vintage summer haven. As always there will be delectable cakes and treats, as well as a pots of tea, (and coffee too!) 11am- 3pm.

Etcetera

Etcetera is a group composed of seven nationally and internationally exhibited quilt and embroidery artists based in the North West of England. They came together to support each other in pushing the boundaries of their art. ‘Transition’ is their first exhibition together. Their interpretation of the theme ranges from socio-political to the more physical explorations of how stitch transforms cloth.
