In The Mix - Ribble Valley Open Prize-winner Exhibition - John McLaughlin

12 May – 4 June

In 2016 the Steward’s Gallery at Clitheroe Castle Museum held their annual Open Exhibition. Artist and sculptor John McLaughlin was awarded the Ribble Valley Prize for his energy filled wood carving of a salmon.

Longridge based John A McLaughlin, born 1975, has always had a love for art. Being self-taught he has explored various mediums and techniques in sculpture, painting and jewellery.

His sculptures have featured in many exhibitions such as the Paisley Art Institute exhibition, the Royal Glasgow Institute exhibition and the Macmillan art shows. He has also previously exhibited work in galleries across Scotland.

In his sculpture he tries to mirror the beauty of nature through sensuous curves and beautiful proportions found in the natural world.

Through the simplicity and rawness of his work he would like to rekindle deep, long forgotten memories which stir the soul and sooth the heart.

Exhibition featuring in the Platform's Education Gallery.

Found in the Fields

6 May - 16 July

Printworks inspired by the poetry of John Clare, a touring exhibition by Carry Akroyd. Over the past 25 years Carry has been creating paintings and prints that reflect and react to the sudden agricultural modernisations that have transformed our landscape. Some of her images are a lament while others express the sheer joy derived from the natural world. These colourful hand drawn images all contain some of Clare’s text; they reflect the landscape of today with roads, pylons, planes and wind farms, but also reveal how the natural world exists alongside us.
