Diversity and Equality
Ribble Valley Borough is made up of socially diverse communities. We are committed to providing equality of opportunity and to valuing diversity.
We aim to treat all customers and employees fairly, with respect and professionalism regardless of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race (nationality or ethnicity), religion or belief, and sexual orientation.
All local authorities have a legal duty to combat inequality, as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
The general equality duty is set out in the 2010 Act. In summary, those subject to the equality duty must, in the exercise of their functions, have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
Equal Opportunities Policy
Our commitment to equal opportunities is shared equally by both Councillors and staff.
