Beauty Is The First Test

The exhibition explores craft and mathematics. It shows how important mathematics is to the contemporary craft practice. Beauty and playfulness will be evident in the exhibits to illustrate what delights craftspeople and maths geeks alike.

Glen Purchase, Ribble Valley Open Prize-winner 2013 - Education Gallery

Each year the Clitheroe Castle Museum host a Ribble Valley Open Exhibition, displaying selected artwork inspired by the Ribble Valley. In 2013 Glen Purchase of Clitheroe was awarded the Ribble Valley Prize, which showcases and celebrates the diversity and excellence of the current art practice in the Ribble Valley. As part of her prize she won this opportunity to have a solo exhibition within Ribble Valley.

Education Gallery - Pendle Potters

Exhibition of ceramics made by the Pendle Potters. Ceramics created by local people who attend classes at Pendle Pottery at Simonstone. Work varies from complete beginners to accomplished potters.

Craft Open 2014

The gallery's annual open exhibition. Craftmakers from across the North of England are invited to apply to be considered for selection. Selected makers are exhibited together in this vibrant and eclectic exhibition.  Furniture, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, glass and mixed media works hang side by side in this celebration of the hand-made. Vote for your favourite piece in the show through the People's Choice Award.

26 July - 4 October


Sanctuary transforms the gallery into a living space where everything is handmade. The exhibition is a display of designs by skilled makers from across the U.K. making original and individual pieces for the home.

Treat and Be Treated

A winter exhibition showcasing up to 80 UK based designer-makers providing a large selection of unique handmade products in the Platform Gallery, celebrating its 20th year this year. Providing the perfect venue for visitors and shoppers to treat and be treated.

On weekends in December you can buy direct from local artists and makers selling from their stalls in the Education Gallery. Open Sunday 6, 13 and 20 of December.

An exhibition and demonstrations by artists based at studios in Blackleach Farm Catforth, Lancashire.

Education Gallery - Maison The Pop Up Cafe

Maison The returns to the Platform Gallery for the final time this year, but they intend to make their last pop up cafe of 2014 one to remember. They will be hosting a festive afternoon tea, as well as serving the usual treats, light bites and drinks.

Pop Up Winter Art and Craft Stalls

Each weekend in December brings a selection of three new Pop Up Art and Craft stalls. The public can chat with the selected artists and designer-makers buy or commission artwork directly from them and see them at work in demonstrations. Celebrating and supporting the diversity of local artists and designer makers.

John Parsons – Wood Turning. Small wood turned decorative boxes finished to a high standard.  

Dermod Ruddock - Landscape Paintings. Oil, acrylic, and watercolour. Original handmade cards. 

Anne Haworth – Ceramics. Hand built ceramics based on natural forms.

13– 14 December, Week 2 

Priscilla Jones - Quirky mixed media textiles.

Kath Heywood - Handmade textile accessories. Colourful and stylish bags, scarves and gloves.

Kathleen Litherland – Jewellery. Unique and individual brightly coloured resin jewellery and fused glass jewellery.

20-21 December, Week 3

Samantha Taylor - Jewellery and accessories. Sculptured and abstract wirework jewellery and accessories with beads, shells vintage buttons and fused glass.  

Bryan Boru - Wood Products. Ornamental and functional wood products and pyrographics.

Anita Burrows - Printmaker’s prints.
