2015 Aviva Tour of Britain
Around 200,000 spectators and the world’s top cyclists, among them Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish, descended on Ribble Valley and Pendle for the 2015 Aviva Tour of Britain.
Event organisers believe up to a million more people will have watched television coverage on ITV4 and Eurosport, with many more in over 100 countries worldwide.
Stuart Hirst, leader of Ribble Valley Borough Council, which co-hosted the event with Pendle Council, thanked the community for coming together to make it such a huge success.
“The community spirit generated by the Tour of Britain was phenomenal. The borough’s towns and villages were resplendent with eye-catching and imaginative displays, and we really did ourselves proud.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a great success, including council staff, schools, businesses and community groups. We really put Ribble Valley on the map and will be feeling the benefits for years.”
The event is believed to have boosted the local economy by around £2million.
Ribble Valley Borough Council filmed the event in Clitheroe, Longridge, Downham and Pendle Hill, and will be releasing the film shortly.
A five-minute Stage 2 film has been produced by the Aviva Tour of Britain.
