We are Helping you Get Fit for Life with 'Up and Active'Published Thursday, 06 June 2019
Move more, lose weight, love life, feel great – that’s the message from Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Up and Active team.
Up and Active has helped nearly 16,000 people in East Lancashire, over 1,500 of them in Ribble Valley, get fit and healthy since being launched in 2016.
Participants have reported improved mobility, mood, fitness and weight loss, while others say the scheme is helping them manage chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and blood pressure.
Up and Active is accessible via smartphones, iPhones and the internet, and outlines a host of activities throughout East Lancashire – many of them free – via an activity search featuring community events, health walks, school activities, family workshops, afterschool clubs and gardening schemes.
Users can register on the Up and Active web site and track and monitor their progress, as well as download activity guides and information. They can also take part in a range of weight management programmes, including courses and workshops.
Tracy Balko, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health and fitness officer, said: “Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of many chronic conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, mental health problems and musculoskeletal conditions.
“People put off exercise for a variety of reasons, such as they haven’t undertaken exercise for a long time and don’t know how or where to start, have bad memories of PE at school or think the gym will be full of perfect people.
“But Up and Active is designed for people of all abilities and our friendly health and fitness team is on hand to help you get started and keep going.”
