Over 50 of the UK’s most celebrated craftworkers and artists are exhibiting at a Clitheroe gallery’s glittering annual festive showcase.

And if you are looking for a unique one-off Christmas gift, with prices starting at just £2, head for the Northern Star exhibition at the Platform Gallery in Station Road.

The exhibition, which runs until Christmas Eve, features a festive feast of handmade items, including textiles, ceramics, glass, woodwork, jewellery, lighting, decorations and cards.

Exhibitors include pewterer Ella McIntosh, one of the UK’s leading pewter designers, who grew up in Clitheroe and is well-known to Ribble Valley residents, after designing commemorative bowls for local London 2012 Olympians Samantha Murray and Jon Schofield.

Other exhibitors include artist Penny Hunt, whose paintings and prints are inspired by the windswept mountains and moorlands surrounding her Yorkshire Dales home, and Chorlton jeweller Abby Filer, whose bold and colourful contemporary work in silver, gold, precious stones and printed aluminium is inspired by her 1960s childhood and has a distinct retro feel.

Stuart Carefoot, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee, said: “Northern Star is one of the Platform Gallery’s most anticipated annual events and this year’s showcase features the work of some of the best artists and craftworkers in the country.

“We are inviting art and craft enthusiasts, or shoppers looking for a unique one-off Christmas gift, to join us for a fantastic day out in Clitheroe.”

Situated in a renovated Victorian railway station, the multi-award-winning Platform Gallery and Clitheroe Visitor Information Centre is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 4.30pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, December 15 and 22.

Any purchase or purchases between £100 and £2,500 can be purchased through Own Art, an interest-free purchasing scheme.

Further details about Northern Star are available from the Platform Gallery on 01200 425566.

  • The series of Clitheroe Christmas markets featuring over 40 food and drink producers continue on Saturday, 14 December, with entertainment by the Clitheroe Pop Choir at 1.30pm, while Swing Commanders front man Peter Riley will take to the bullring at the final market on Saturday, 21 December.
