Help at hand for Borough's Damp or Draughty Houses

Published Thursday, 26 November 2020

Help is at hand for Ribble Valley residents living in damp or draughty houses.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has joined forces with home improvement agency Homewise to ensure your home is toasty and energy-efficient this winter.

Help is available for a raft of cold-busting measures, including insulation, draughtproofing, central heating and associated water heating, boiler replacement and installation of solar panels, as well as assistance in accessing grants and subsidies to pay for the work.

Bridget Hilton, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health and housing committee, said: “Ribble Valley has a high number of off-grid and single-skin, solid wall or non-cavity wall properties, so some residents struggle to keep their homes warm during winter.

“The council has worked hard to address this problem over the years and we are delighted to join forces with Homewise to offer much-needed help to vulnerable residents at risk of poor health due to cold or damp living conditions.”

Homewise is an independent home improvement agency providing comprehensive, impartial help and advice on all aspects of home improvements, adaptations, repairs and maintenance, particularly for older, disabled and vulnerable households.

Further details are available from Ribble Valley Borough Council’s housing team on 01200 425111 or Homewise on 01254 232249.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits, you may also be entitled to a free first-time central heating system, or funding towards cavity wall insulation, loft insulation or a replacement boiler, from the Cosy Homes in Lancashire scheme. Further details are available on 03306 061 488.
