Help at Hand for Small Businesses

Published Thursday, 13 March 2014

An extra £600,000 in business rates relief is up for grabs by retail outlets in Ribble Valley with a rateable value of £50,000 or less.

Discounts of up to £1,000 will be available to shops, pubs and restaurants, with multiple discounts available to business ratepayers with several outlets.

And there is more good news for the borough's small businesses, as increases in businesses rates are to be capped at two per cent and businesses can now spread the cost of their rates over 12 months, instead of 10.

Ribble Valley Borough Council handed out £1.8million in small business rates relief to qualifying businesses last year.

Small business rates relief of 100 per cent will still apply on businesses with a rateable value of less than £6,000 and relief on a sliding scale of up to 100 per cent on businesses with a rateable value of between £6,000 and £12,000.

Ribble Valley Borough Council is currently sending out claim forms with business rates bills and business owners are asked to complete the forms and return them without delay.

Further details are available from the council's business rates team on 01200 414451.
