Gallery Celebrates all things Handmade

Published Monday, 28 April 2014

A celebration of all things handmade featuring the North West’s best craftworkers is to take place at the Platform Gallery, Clitheroe.

The Station Road gallery will host its popular Craft Open from 3 May to 12 July featuring the work of craftspeople from Lancashire, Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

The region’s best crafts, including woven, stitched, felted and constructed textiles, ceramics, jewellery, metalwork, woodwork, furniture, glass, calligraphy and mixed media, as well as pieces that are two or three-dimensional, will be on show.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for a People’s Choice Prize and the Selectors’ Prize for Innovation will offer the winning Ribble Valley exhibitor their own showcase at the gallery in 2015.

The winners of last year’s Selectors’ Prize – wildlife sculptor Jan Lord of Hurst Green, mixed media artist Anne-Marie O’Brien of Rishton and landscape textile artist Pamela Eccles of Preston – will also display their work.

Platform Gallery supervisor Stephanie Hibbert said: “The Craft Open is a fantastic opportunity for craft enthusiasts to see the work of the finest craftworkers in the North West.

“There is a rich artistic heritage in Lancashire and some fantastically talented craftspeople are taking part in this superb exhibition.”

The Platform Gallery is open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm and Saturdays 10.00am to 4.30pm and further details are available on 01200 425566.
