Euro Election Candidates Revealed

The full list of candidates and parties for the forthcoming European elections has been published.

Eleven political parties will contest the elections on Thursday 22 May, to choose the North West's eight Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

Ribble Valley residents who want to vote must be registered as an elector by Tuesday 6 May. The deadline for new postal vote applications, or changes to existing proxy or postal votes is Wednesday 7 May. New proxy vote applications must be made by Wednesday 14 May. Emergency proxy votes are available until 5.00pm on polling day.

European parliamentary elections are the second biggest democratic exercise in the world, with over 400 million people expected to cast a vote.

The 751 MEPs will set the course of European policy for the next five years and elect the leader of the European Union's executive body, the European Commission.

Anyone who is not a registered elector in Ribble Valley or has recently moved into the borough and would like to vote is asked to contact the council's elections team on 01200 414411.
