Redevelopment of Clitheroe Market Takes a Step FurtherPublished Thursday, 12 June 2014
The proposed redevelopment of Clitheroe Market has taken a step further following a meeting of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s policy and finance committee.
Ribble Valley Borough Council entered into preliminary discussions with Barnfield Construction Ltd regarding a proposed redevelopment of the market site last year.
The Nelson-based company was given six months to research the viability of a retail development at the site and its findings were presented to councillors last night (Tuesday 10 June).
Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said: “Following an approach to the council, Barnfield Construction was given six months to establish if there was sufficient interest in developing Clitheroe Market.
“They have now concluded their research, which suggests that a redevelopment of the site would be viable.
“I am delighted by the encouraging level of interest from the private sector in this proposed scheme and the council will now proceed with a procurement process to take it forward.”
Developers interested in making an expression of interest are asked to contact the council’s head of regeneration and housing, Colin Hirst, on 01200 414503.
