Ribble Valley "Silvers" Celebrate Getting Older

Published Thursday, 11 September 2014

Senior citizens in Ribble Valley are invited to celebrate being older at a special event in Clitheroe.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has joined forces with the Ribble Valley Seniors’ Forum and Age UK Lancashire to host the event at St Michael and St John’s Social Centre, Lowergate, on 2 October from 1 to 4pm.

The event, which includes entertainment and afternoon tea, is part of Older People’s Day, the national celebration of the achievements and contributions to society of older people.

Ribble Valley Borough Council partnership officer Dilys Day said: “Older People’s Day aims to challenge the negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes that exist about the elderly.

“It also aims to promote healthy lifestyles, combat loneliness and encourage the sharing of skills between different generations.

“We are inviting the borough’s older residents to join us for what promises to be a fabulous afternoon and let the world know that they are very much full of life!”

Admission to the event is free, but by ticket only on a first-come-first-served basis from Ribble Valley Borough Council 01200 425111.
