Building control surveyors at Ribble Valley Borough Council have received a pat on the back at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The council’s building control team oversaw the extension of Cob House in Grindleton by Haslingden developer Prime Country Developments Ltd in association with Clitheroe architects Sunderland Peacock, which won the Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home category in the 2016 LABC North West Building Excellence Awards.

They also oversaw three other nominations: Two in the Best Individual New Home category – for Boxwood House in Rimington and Pendle Road in Clitheroe – and one for Best New Housing Development for Copperfields in Clitheroe.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards are the ‘Oscars’ of the building sector and the glittering ceremony at the Macron Stadium, Bolton, was attended by 600 developers, architects and building inspectors.

Ribble Valley Council’s head of environmental health, Heather Coar, said: “The Building Excellence Awards promote the very best in construction and design, and the success of these developments highlights the advantages of close co-operation between the building sector and local authorities.

“The council’s building control team brings a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience to building projects and I am delighted that several developments they oversaw and nominated have done so well at these prestigious awards.”

Roy Benyon, chairman of Local Authority Building Control North West, added: “These awards celebrate the best construction in the region, recognising the high level of skill and professionalism the building industry is capable of reaching and demonstrating that local authority building control provides a high-quality service to many of the region’s best builders.”
