Town’s New Sports Pitch Gets the Euro TreatmentPublished Tuesday, 05 July 2016
A Clitheroe sports pitch has received the Euro treatment following an adult football competition.
Has Beens have been crowned champions of the borough’s inaugural Euro 2016 Adult 3G Football League.
The league, which attracted 100 participants over five weeks in the run-up to Euro 2016, is part of a sports development plan devised by Ribble Valley Borough Council following the opening of its £50,000 3G pitch.
The pitch in Edisford Road, Clitheroe, was funded by Ribble Valley Borough Council and Sport England, and opened last year.
The state-of-the-art pitch has a surface made from synthetic fibres and rubbers that look like grass, but unlike many artificial surfaces do not contain sand, so can withstand heavy use and inclement weather.
The council’s sports development officer, Peter Fletcher, said: “The new pitch is enabling people to play recreational and competitive sport, and as well as football is being used for junior rugby and other sports.
“Ribble Valley has a thriving sports community and the pitch looks set to benefit residents young and old for years to come.”
Other teams in the Euro League included Low Moor Club, Turkish All Stars, Bernard's Heroes, Sandbags and Ballers.
Further football leagues will be scheduled throughout the year and further details are available by following @RVsportsdev or phoning Ribble Valley Borough Council on 01200 425111.
