Rates Relief on the Cards for Small Businesses

Published Thursday, 10 August 2017

Businesses in Ribble Valley with a rateable value of £100,000 or less are to receive a rates relief boost.

Chancellor Philip Hammond announced additional rates relief for some businesses in the March Budget.

Eligible businesses are expected to include pubs with a rateable value below £100,000 and current recipients of small business rates relief or rural rates relief that will no longer receive it following the 2017 revaluation.

Ribble Valley Borough Council also expects to receive a financial settlement to support those businesses facing the steepest rates increases and able to demonstrate hardship following the revaluation.

Council leader Ken Hind said: “This is welcome news for some small businesses in Ribble Valley and as soon as the Government provides full details of the relief we will identify eligible recipients and invite them to apply for it.

“We had already printed business rates bills for 2017/18 before this additional help was announced, which ratepayers will receive shortly, and we will contact them again with details of the new relief as soon as they become available.”

Further details are available from the council’s business rates team on 01200 414451.
