Motorists are advised that the centre of Whalley will be closed to traffic on Thursday, 7 December, for the village’s annual festive extravaganza.

King Street in Whalley will close between Station Road and Accrington Road from 5.30pm to 9pm for the village’s Pickwick Night.

Only accident and emergency vehicles will have access to the centre of the village during these hours. Bus routes through the centre of the village will also be affected.

Traffic from Clitheroe will be diverted up Wiswell Lane, along the A671 and down Accrington Road. Traffic from Billington will be diverted up Accrington Road, along the A671 and down Wiswell Lane. Vehicles requiring access to Church Lane will be diverted via Station Road, Broad Lane and The Sands.

There will be a marshalled pedestrian crossing between the Swan car park and Whalley Arms car park in Accrington Road to facilitate access to Whalley Village Hall’s indoor festive market.

Whalley Bus Station will be closed from 9am until 10pm to allow the event to be set up and dismantled, during which there will be a temporary bus stop at the bus station exit in King Street.

There will be parking restrictions along Accrington Road and in the road closure area.

A park-and-walk scheme will be available at the Sidings Car Park in Station Road accessible from Clitheroe, Longridge and Wiswell Lane.

Whalley’s popular Pickwick Night is now in its 27th year and attracts around 5,000 people to the Ribble Valley village. This year’s event will include pipe and brass bands, live music, children’s entertainment, street entertainment and over 40 stalls selling a range of festive goods and gifts.
