Clitheroe Castle to Host Weekly Park Runs

Published Wednesday, 28 March 2018

Weekly ‘park runs’ in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle are out of the blocks after getting the thumbs-up from Ribble Valley Borough Council.

The council’s community services committee heard that Ribble Valley Runners and the Clitheroe Castle Running Group want to hold the events at 9am every Saturday in conjunction with national charity parkrun.

Parkrun offers free, safe, timed 5km runs every week in over 500 locations across the UK.

The Clitheroe Castle junior park run has been operating successfully on Sundays since last October and currently attracts around 50 children aged four to 14 for timed 2km runs.

Ribble Valley Borough Council’s sports development officer, Peter Fletcher, said: “There has been a surge in running nationally in recent years and the Clitheroe Castle junior park runs have been a great success.

“The nearest adult park runs are in Accrington, Burnley or Preston, but now Ribble Valley residents will be able to take part in regular runs in Clitheroe.

“The runs are organised by volunteers and are inclusive and open to all.

“I would like to thank Ribble Valley Runners and the Clitheroe Castle Running Group for their hard work in getting these runs off the ground.”

The Clitheroe Castle adult park runs are scheduled to start in late spring and further details are available at
