NO MORE MR MICE GUY – Ribble Valley Borough Council’s pest control team can help if you are troubled by pests and insects.

Householders in Ribble Valley are being advised to protect their properties from winter pests.

Many rodents, including mice, rats and squirrels, seek warmth when the temperature drops and your home or business can be a cosy bolthole for them.

Pests take advantage of easy access points and build nests in attics, garages, wall cavities and even unused cupboards.

But for just £54.50 Ribble Valley Borough Council’s much-admired pest control team will size up the situation and give you a helping hand.

The council has a pest control officer whose knowledge and expertise can be called upon to treat pests, such as moles, mice, rats, squirrels, flies and cockroaches, wasps and hornets.

Andrew Dent, the council’s head of environmental health, said: “You may think pests are only linked to the long hot days of summer and, while it is true that they are more active in the warm weather, there are plenty of winter pests you should look out for.

“Mice and rats can enter homes and businesses throughout the year to either keep warm or forage for food.

“Many people will be shocked to find a nest on their property that seemingly appeared ‘overnight’, but in fact the process will have started a long time ago.

“But help is at hand and our pest control team is happy to help householders troubled by pests at a competitive price.”

Ribble Valley Borough Council is advising householders to follow these top tips to keep winter pests at bay:

  • Check the outside of your property for small access points and seal them up
  • Ensure bins, particularly those containing food waste, are securely closed and placed as far away from your property as possible
  • Don’t leave foodstuffs, including dried dog food, on worktops or the floor
  • Bird feed can attract rodents, so go easy when scattering it across your garden
  • Check any unused spaces regularly, so you can identify infestations as soon as possible

The council’s pest control team is available on weekdays by appointment and repeat visits may be required to fully treat the pests.

The team will also visit commercial premises at a rate of £62.50 per hour, plus the cost of products used.
