Tree-Planting Scheme Gets to the Roots

Published Thursday 22nd April 10

Up to 50 trees are being planted in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle over the next two years.

A variety of trees, including rowan, cherry, whitebeam and acer, will be planted to enhance the landscape of the castle and replace trees that are decayed or diseased.

The tree planting is part of a huge renovation of the Clitheroe Castle site, which has included a £3.5million refurbishment of the museum, as well as works to the keep, gardens and general landscaping.

Over 20 trees, including tulip, oak, rowan, whitebeam and lime, are also being planted at the Clitheroe Cemetery Arboretum.

*    A beech tree at the main entrance to Clitheroe Castle has been pruned after shedding a large branch. Given the tree's location and the constant use of the castle grounds by people and traffic, it was decided to prune the tree following a risk assessment.

Ends.
