A Stroll Across Clitheroe’s Limestone Ridge

The Importance of Site - a Stroll Across Clitheroe's Limestone Reef Knoll. Discover Clitheroe’s Castle, Town Wells, and Parish Church - its temporal, martial and spiritual site
“A Stroll Across Clitheroe’s Limestone Ridge” – a guided walk exploring the town’s ancient former Public Town Wells, Clitheroe Castle and St Mary Magdalene’s Church – the Martial, temporal and spiritual landmarks of this ancient Parish and how they have interacted over the last millennium to help define Clitheroe.
This year’s walk offers more than scenic views. It’s a living narrative of Clitheroe’s geological backbone and cultural soul—linking medieval water sources, ecclesiastical heritage, and resilient community stewardship. The route has been carefully curated to engage both local residents and visitors with stories that span centuries, from pre-Norman springs to Victorian expansion.
We believe this event will resonate with both Ribble Valley residents and visitors – especially those passionate about Lancashire’s heritage, outdoor exploration, and community-led initiatives.
