Join Susan at Clitheroe Castle Museum for a lively and entertaining talk exploring the fascinating true events behind her latest historical mystery for children.
Wrong Tracks is inspired by the Rainhill Trials — a landmark competition that helped shape the future of rail travel. On 27 September 1825, George Stephenson’s steam-powered Locomotion No.1 made history by travelling 26 miles between Shildon, Darlington, and Stockton, carrying hundreds of passengers. This breakthrough led to the Rainhill Trials, held from 6 to 14 October 1829, which tested Stephenson’s claim that locomotives were the best way to power the nearly completed Liverpool and Manchester Railway.
Susan’s talk will delve into the real-life drama and innovation that inspired her story, offering a glimpse into the world of early railways and northern history.
