Full Steam Ahead! An author talk with Susan Brownrigg at Clitheroe Castle.

Discover how early railway history inspired Lancashire author Susan Brownrigg’s critically acclaimed children’s book, Wrong Tracks.
Join Susan at Clitheroe Castle Museum for a lively and entertaining talk exploring the fascinating true events behind her latest historical mystery for children.
Wrong Tracks is inspired by the Rainhill Trials — a landmark competition that helped shape the future of rail travel. On 27 September 1825, George Stephenson’s steam-powered Locomotion No.1 made history by travelling 26 miles between Shildon, Darlington, and Stockton, carrying hundreds of passengers. This breakthrough led to the Rainhill Trials, held from 6 to 14 October 1829, which tested Stephenson’s claim that locomotives were the best way to power the nearly completed Liverpool and Manchester Railway.
Susan’s talk will delve into the real-life drama and innovation that inspired her story, offering a glimpse into the world of early railways and northern history.
After the talk, enjoy a Q&A session with Susan and the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Wrong Tracks.
Tickets: £6 per person Includes refreshments and a free museum pass (valid for 30 days from the event date, issued on arrival). Booking essential.
