Whalley Annual Parish Meeting
Open to all electors of the parish. (This is not a meeting of the parish council)
Guest speakers include Beck House - Founder & Director of Struggles in Strength and a representative from Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust to update on the Whalley former Calderstones site.
Struggles in Strength is a mental health organisation supporting people in Ribble Valley and Hyndburn with a new hub working out of Whalley Abbey, founded by Beck House. A former Lancashire police officer with 21 years of service, she experienced a severe drug-induced psychotic episode that led to her detention under the Mental Health Act. After a long recovery, she returned to frontline policing for 15 more years before an on-duty assault ended her career.
Following this, Beck wrote Police to Paranoia about her experiences and, inspired by its impact, established S.I.S to help others. The organisation now provides free, accessible mental health support, including peer groups, wellbeing walks, counselling, art therapy, children’s programmes, and alternative therapies, working closely with local social prescribing teams.
Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust will update on works completed and in progress, and any future plans for the Whalley (former Calderstones) site.
We look forward to welcoming residents and local business to attend.
